Melaka, October 6, 2026 – Honda Malaysia (or the Company) today officially rolled out the New City Hatchback from its Melaka manufacturing plant, signalling the imminent arrival of the refreshed compact hatchback in the Malaysian market.
The ceremony was witnessed by H.E. SHIKATA Noriyuki, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Malaysia. It underscores the role that Honda plays as a Japanese car brand with a long-standing presence in Malaysia, contributing to the enduring partnership between both countries, through local investment, manufacturing and community engagement.
Honda Malaysia Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Narushi Yazaki said, “Honda Malaysia has grown alongside this nation, and we are privileged to be part of the deep-rooted relationship between Malaysia and Japan, which spans economy, cultural, and people-to-people exchanges. I extend our heartfelt appreciation to H.E. SHIKATA Noriyuki for honouring us with his presence, making the production rollout of the New City Hatchback an even more memorable milestone.”
“This rollout represents more than just the introduction of a new model; it reflects our dedication to manufacturing excellence, innovation, and sustainable growth. Driven by this commitment and our “Challenging Spirit”, Honda Malaysia strives to deliver products and services that bring joy and true value to Malaysians while supporting the local automotive industry.”
The production rollout marks a significant milestone in Honda Malaysia’s manufacturing journey, which began in 2003. Since then, the Company remains committed to strengthening its local manufacturing capabilities, delivering products that not only meet the evolving needs and lifestyles of Malaysians, but also create long-term value for mobility, everyday life, and society.
H.E. SHIKATA Noriyuki, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Malaysia said, “I commend Honda Malaysia for bringing together Japanese technology, manufacturing know-how and commitment to quality with Malaysian talent, local suppliers and industrial capabilities. Honda Malaysia’s commitment to localization is particularly noteworthy. The company has helped to strengthen local capabilities and expand domestic production by working closely with local suppliers.”
Beyond product excellence, Honda Malaysia continues to serve as a key contributor to the automotive sector. The Melaka manufacturing plant plays a vital role in supporting Honda’s operations while driving the development of the local automotive industry. To date, Honda Malaysia has partnered with approximately 500 local suppliers, forming a robust ecosystem that propels shared growth for both the brand and local businesses.
Powered by a workforce of nearly 20,000 associates nationwide across Honda Malaysia, its dealership network, and supplier partners, the Company remains dedicated to nurturing local talent and generating career opportunities that support the nation's economic progress.
The production rollout of the New City Hatchback further strengthens the City model lineup in Malaysia, following the recent launch of the New City Sedan. Since its introduction in 2021, the City Hatchback has recorded cumulative sales of more than 51,000 units, reflecting the model’s continued appeal among Malaysian customers.
As an important model in the Honda Malaysia lineup, the New City Hatchback is set to make its return with refreshed styling, enhanced connectivity and comprehensive technologies, while retaining its signature ULTRA Seats that offer versatile space configurations. Built for an active, modern lifestyle, the new model is designed for Malaysians who value the ideal balance of style, practicality, and flexibility, empowering drivers to express their individuality and personality.
Building on 78 years of global heritage, Honda Malaysia reaffirms its steadfast commitment to bringing the joy of driving to Malaysians through quality products and advanced technologies.
