Melaka, 24 July 2026 – Honda Malaysia (or the Company) today officially commemorated the completion of its first solar power installation initiative at the Melaka Plant in Alor Gajah, officiated by Yang Amat Berhormat Datuk Seri Utama Ab Rauf bin Yusoh, Chief Minister of Melaka. The event marks an important milestone in the Company's sustainability journey and represents an early step toward Honda's global vision of achieving carbon neutrality for all products and corporate activities by 2050.
The Company invested approximately RM14 million in the project through a self-investment approach. The investment reflects Honda Malaysia’s belief that environmental stewardship and business growth can progress together, creating lasting value for customers, communities and future generations.
The solar power system comprises approximately 8,960 solar panels installed across the rooftops of the Melaka Plant, with a total installed capacity of more than 5.6 megawatts (MW). The system is expected to generate approximately 7,042 megawatt-hours (MWh) of renewable electricity annually, reducing the plant’s carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 4,584 tonnes annually, equivalent to approximately 10% of its total carbon emissions. By harnessing renewable energy, Honda Malaysia will further reduce its dependence on conventional electricity sources while improving the environmental performance of its manufacturing operations.
In addition to its Solar PV System, Honda Malaysia has implemented a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to enhance renewable energy management. The BESS stores excess solar energy for later use, improving efficiency and ensuring a more stable supply for operations. Honda Malaysia is proud to be a pioneer among industrial electricity consumers in Malaysia in the installation of a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), marking a key milestone in its journey towards carbon neutrality and supporting the nation’s low-carbon transition.
In line with its sustainability commitments, Honda Malaysia has successfully achieved the Climate and Sustainability Industry Readiness Index (COSIRI) certification, attaining a star rating of 3.07. This milestone underscores the Company’s strong environmental, social and governance (ESG) foundation and highlights its proactive efforts to embed sustainable practices across its operations, reinforcing its position as a leading manufacturer.
Honda Malaysia’s sustainability commitment extends beyond its manufacturing operations. Through the continuous expansion of its e:HEV model lineup, the Company is providing customers with advanced electrified mobility solutions that deliver both driving performance and fuel efficiency while reducing environmental impact. Combined with initiatives such as renewable energy adoption at its manufacturing facilities, Honda Malaysia continues to drive sustainable value across its entire business.
Honda Malaysia also expresses its sincere appreciation to the Melaka State Government and the Malaysian Government for their continued support in advancing renewable energy initiatives, whose collaboration has been instrumental in making this project possible. The Green Investment Tax Allowance (GITA) played an important role in facilitating the implementation of the project. This project aligns with the nation’s sustainability agenda and renewable energy aspirations, highlighting the importance of public-private collaboration in accelerating Malaysia’s transition towards a greener future.

Building on this commitment, Honda Malaysia will further expand its solar power initiative to the Parts Supply Warehouse in Bukit Jelutong, Shah Alam in 2027, reinforcing our long-term efforts to drive sustainable operations. In addition, our sustainability journey extends beyond our own facilities, as our stakeholders, including Honda dealers, have also embraced environmentally responsible practices such as rainwater harvesting and proper battery disposal initiatives. These collective efforts further contribute to enhancing our overall environmental performance and support our shared vision of a more sustainable future.”
