All-New CR-V Reengineered With Next Generation Advanced Technologies And Honda SENSING To Set New Expectations In SUV

Petaling Jaya, 1 June 2017 – The wait is almost over! The highly anticipated All-New 5th Generation CR-V Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) is heading to all 91 Honda showrooms nationwide soon. Customers are invited to place early bookings for the All-New CR-V beginning 1 June onwards.

The All-New CR-V has been completely redesigned and reengineered with attention to detail brought to the next level, to offer a premium SUV with a multitude of advanced features beyond what were previously available in Malaysia. The result is a Comfortable Runabout Vehicle that sets new expectations in automobile technology and raises the bar in safety, drivability, sculpted design, interior comfort, convenience and functionality as well as spaciousness in Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs). The All-New CR-V is a perfect example that Malaysians can have both style and practicality in an SUV.

For the first time, Honda Malaysia is introducing its comprehensive suite of Honda SENSING safety and driver-assistive technologies. Honda’s most Advanced Safety Technology, Honda SENSING is the next generation active safety feature to assist drivers by providing warnings and aiding drivers to avoid or mitigate the severity of a collision. Honda SENSING is unique as it uses both monocular camera and millimeter wave radar to enable a more complete view of the road and as an added safety measure. A monocular camera positioned at the top of the windshield and millimeter wave radar inside the front grille are able to achieve greater accuracy as they combine the strength of the radar in object detection and the camera in object recognition. The Honda SENSING safety suite consists of seven features, which are Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Low-Speed Follow (LSF), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM), and Lane Departure Warning (LDW) that will provide Driver’s Cruising Aid, Frontal Collision Deterrence and Side Collision Deterrence.

A. Driver’s Cruising Aid

The two systems of Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Low-Speed Follow (LSF) allow drivers to cruise at a safe distance from the vehicle in front without having to manually accelerate or decelerate, and thereby reduces driver stress especially on highways. ACC with Low-Speed Follow operates at speeds up to 180 km/h.

1. Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) allows the driver to set a desired speed and following interval from a vehicle detected ahead. This system helps to maintain a predetermined, safe interval from the vehicle ahead when cruising.

2. Low-Speed Follow (LSF)

Integrated with ACC, the Low-Speed Follow (LSF) automatically adjusts the cruising speed when a change of speed of the vehicle ahead is detected to maintain the set, safe distance. It extends the automatic following capability to stop-and-go traffic situations (down to 0 km/h).

B. Frontal Collision Deterrence

The combination of Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) work in tandem as a Frontal Collision Deterrence system.

3. Forward Collision Warning (FCW) – Integrated with CMBS

Forward Collision Warning (FCW) uses monocular camera and millimeter wave radar to detect the presence of vehicles in front. When the FCW system detects a risk of collision with the front vehicle, it triggers a visual warning and audible alerts for the driver.

4. Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)

The Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) is activated using millimeter radar unit and monocular camera to scan traffic conditions in front of the vehicle and when it detects a possible collision. When the system determines a potential collision ahead, it will autonomously engage the brakes to reduce vehicle speed and collision forces and therefore reduces severity of eventual collision.

C. Side Collision Deterrence

Three systems of Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW) are employed to minimise risk of a potential side collision.

5. Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)

Working with LDW, Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) uses a camera to read lane markings and employs Electric Power Steering (EPS) to adjust the steering to maintain the vehicle within the lane.

6. Road Departure Mitigation (RDM)

The Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) operates when the vehicle is travelling at about
72 km/h – 180 km/h or more and the vehicle is departing from the roadway or the system predicts that the car will depart from the roadway. It will be activated when the vehicle veers too close to the edge of the road; the steering wheel will vibrate to alert driver and take corrective action via Electric Power Steering (EPS) to help the car stay in its lane. If the vehicle is detected leaving a lane marked by solid line, braking force via Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) kicks in to keep the vehicle from departing from the lane or roadway.

7. Lane Departure Warning (LDW) - Integrated with RDM

Lane Departure Warning (LDW) detects the lane boundaries and when the driver leaves the lane without using signal lights, it will notify the user with visual indication and steering vibration to bring attention to the driver.

In addition to Honda SENSING, for the first time, the All-New CR-V is equipped with a 1.5L VTEC turbocharged powertrain mated with upgraded Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT). Developed under Honda’s Earth Dreams Technology, this new powertrain generates more horsepower and torque than its predecessor - up to 193 PS at 5,600 rpm, offering the next generation performance with superior fuel economy; while the torque is rated at 243 Nm @ 2,000 – 5,000 rpm. With a more powerful and enhanced driving performance, the
All-New CR-V promises to be the SUV that will further define the characteristics of driving an SUV.

Size wise, the All-New CR-V is built bigger than its 4th Generation predecessor; measuring 4,584 mm in length, 1,855 mm in width and 1,679 mm (2WD) or 1,689 mm (4WD) in height with a wheelbase of 2,660 mm. The ground clearance is 198 mm (2WD) or 208 mm (4WD), providing a bolder stance. Despite its size, the manoeuvrability is just like a sedan even on byways with the driver enjoying high viewpoint in the All-New CR-V.

The All-New CR-V continues to emphasise Honda’s signature class-leading interior spaciousness and practicality. The makeover in spaciousness pushes its already top-in-class cavernous interior and cargo into the next level of unrivalled voluminous. Taller and leggy occupants can rejoice when riding in the All-New CR-V especially during long journeys! Honda has also reconfigured the cargo space, which can now be extended up to 1,084 litres when the rear seats are on flat mode. The huge space is easily created with just a pull of the lever to lay the rear seats almost completely flat.

These exciting advancements are in addition to other features which have been made standard in all variants, such as 6 Airbags, Reverse Camera, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) and Smart Entry and Push Start Button for convenience. The All-New CR-V also comes with eight sensors in the higher variants.

Overall, the 5th Generation All-New CR-V has been redesigned, from exterior to interior. All its advanced technologies are packed into a design that presents a bolder and more aggressive stance that fuses strength and masculine looks with modern sophistication. The front exterior conveys an attitude with its crisper and sharper design element and strapping grille. Angular body lines run through to the rear where the wide bearing with dual exhaust increased its dynamic presentation. Wing-shaped LED Daytime Running Lights, LED Headlights, Tail and Brake Lights, Tailgate Spoiler and Dual Tone Alloy Wheels complete the upscale presence. This strong and premium character of the All-New CR-V is matched with outstanding ride quality and new class leading technologies to captivate both young and mature customers.

Customers can have a firsthand look at this new generation CR-V that raises the benchmark for SUVs, at the ongoing roadshows.
