Petaling Jaya, 29 August 2013 – Honda Malaysia today announced that the Honda Civic has topped a recent New Car Assessment Programme for Southeast Asia Countries (ASEAN NCAP) crash test. The segment leading Honda Civic achieved a 5-Star rating, reinforcing its value of being a safe family sedan car.
The results were released by the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) at the ASEAN NCAP second Open Day at the MIROS office. ASEAN NCAP is an automobile safety-rating programme jointly established by MIROS and Global New Car Assessment Programme (Global NCAP) upon a collaborative MOU signed by both parties. A total of 11 car models were subjected to an offset frontal collision test at a closing speed of 64km/h where the Honda Civic achieved 5-Star rating in the Adult Occupant Protection and 82% in the Child Occupant Protection.
The Honda Civic’s body structure is built with the G-force Control Technology (G-CON) that helps disperse crash impact and absorb impact energy by reducing injuries significantly, while improving safety for everyone involved in a collision. Honda was the first car maker to build an indoor omni-directional crash test facility to better understand multi-car collisions in the real world, which resulted in the G-CON technology. All Honda models sold in Malaysia are equipped with G-CON compliant body construction, which has been designed to a higher standard than required by Euro NCAP. Additionally, the Honda Civic has added frontal collision protection for crash compatibility between vehicles of different size and ride height via the refined Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure.
The Honda Civic is also fitted with active safety features such as the Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) integrated with the Motion Adaptive EPS (Electronic Power Steering) which works to prevent the vehicle from skidding when the driver has to quickly swerve to avoid a collision, the Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Brake Assist (BA) and Emergency Brake Distribution (EBD). The Civic’s passive safety features include Dual Front SRS Airbags and 3-point Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) seatbelts to minimize injury to passengers.
Honda Malaysia is pleased with the results that reaffirm the high safety standard of the current 9th Generation Civic that is being sold currently. In Malaysia, Honda has sold close to 80,000 units of Honda Civic petrol and hybrid versions since its introduction in 2003. The Honda Civic continues to be the market leader in its segment.
