Petaling Jaya, 27 August 2013 – The totally redesigned 9th Generation Accord is being introduced as the Advanced Smart Premium Sedan with refined innovative styling and advanced premium features. The long awaited All-New Accord will officially go on sale in Malaysia early next month.
Honda Malaysia Sdn Bhd Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Yoichiro Ueno said, “For more than 30 years, the Accord has been the flagship model for Honda, and it remains the industry benchmark in a very competitive segment. We are very pleased to announce that the 9th Generation Accord will be featured with Honda’s revolutionary powertrain, driver-assistive visibility technologies and advanced safety features, in order to provide a premium sophistication driving experience.”
The All-New Accord will be available in three variants, namely 2.0VTi, 2.0VTi-L and 2.4VTi-L. The highest variant is now powered by Honda’s revolutionary “Earth Dreams Technology” engine. The 2.4-L DOHC i-VTEC generates 175 horsepower at 6,200 rpm and torque of 225 Nm at 4,000 rpm. While the 2.0-L SOHC i-VTEC variant engine has been enhanced from the current Accord to achieve better fuel efficiency. The “Earth Dreams Technology" is a next generation set of technological innovations to pursue a high level of driving performance and fuel efficiency. The efficiency of internal combustion components including engine and transmission is further improved through high combustion efficiency, less friction in each part and an overall weight reduction of 4.5% through all-out rationalization.
All three variants are fitted with ECON Mode which when activated, combines and performs a series of ECO Assist functions including optimizing control of the Drive By Wire (DBW), Automatic Transmission (AT) Shift Map, air conditioner, engine and related powertrain components. This intelligent combination is able to improve the vehicle’s fuel usage efficiently with a push of a button.
Size-wise, the All-New Accord is smaller and lighter than its predecessor, measuring 4,870 mm in length, 1,465 mm in height with a wheelbase at 2,775 mm. The All-New Accord features an improved exterior styling bringing the Accord’s trademark dynamic and sophisticated design up a notch. With the fundamental concept of a “Dynamic Intelligent Sedan”, the All-New Accord features a strong aerodynamic V-shaped body that adds to its futuristic value.
Despite the reduction in size, Honda managed to extend the interior space to make it roomier and more comfortable for its passengers as it remains true to the Honda design philosophy of ‘Man Maximum, Machine Minimum’. Rear legroom has been increased by 35.5 mm, while the boot is 23 liters larger. The All-New Accord sets a new benchmark of spaciousness in its segment. Overall, the premium interior with smooth, clean layout has an increased high quality texture right up to the leather and the feel of stitching as well as a solid console that enhances the Accord’s luxury image.
For the All-New Accord, comfort and convenience begins at the point of entry. With the Smart Key System, the All-New Accord will be able to detect when the key fob is near the vehicle, allowing the owner to lock and unlock its doors with utmost elegance and ease. Another smart feature, the One Push Ignition System, enables the engine to be started with the push of a button.
In the All-New Accord, efficient noise insulation hardware, Active Noise Control (ANC) and Active Sound Control works together to provide quietness above its class, from startup to cruising. The ANC uses the audio system to generate out-of-phase sound waves to reduce engine noise inside the cabin and create a pleasant driving experience. The Noise, Vibration, Harshness (NVH) is significantly enhanced with a strong insulation padding package, allowing both driver and passengers to indulge and enjoy the exhilarating ride in the spacious and comfortable cabin of the All-New Accord.
The 9th Generation Accord will introduce numerous new features for enhanced driver safety, visibility and security. These safety and technological innovations will definitely put the Honda Accord ahead of its competitors in terms of safety. The All-New Accord (2.4VTi-L) will be Honda’s first model in the world to receive the Lane Watch Camera, which uses a camera system mounted on the passenger mirror for an enhanced view up to two lanes wide of the passenger-side view of the road. Blind spot visual will be displayed on the eight-inch full LED backlid VGA intelligent Multi-Information Display (i-MID) which is the Accord’s Smart Interface technology. The All-New Accord (2.0VTi-L and 2.4VTi-L) will also receive a Multi-Angle Rearview Camera that able to capture a display area of 180 degree for better visibility when reversing. Emergency Stop Light signal and One Touch Lane Change feature increases the innovative safety aspects of this dynamic vehicle. Light distribution performance is improved and there is much better visibility and safety for night driving through the high performance, power saving and advanced LED Head Light (First Honda vehicle to apply in Malaysia), LED Daytime Running Lights and Position Lamp as well as the Active Cornering Lights. Available in the 2.4VTi-L variant, the Active Cornering Lights feature provides additional lighting automatically when the driver activates the indicators or turns the steering wheel more than 90 degrees. It intelligently lights up the side of the vehicle even before the vehicle is fully turn to assist the driver in low visibility conditions. This is another first for Honda.
Besides the exciting new safety features, standard active and passive safety features designed to protect in the unlikely case of an accident remains in the All-New Accord, such as the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with Traction Control, Brake Assist (BA), Dual front i-SRS Airbags, i-Side Airbags with (OPDS) Occupant Position Detection System (2.4VTi-L), ISOFIX and E-Pretentioner Seatbelts. The 9th Generation Accord also features enhanced Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE) Body Structure to improve frontal crash safety. Another safety feature, the Hill Start Assist enhances driver confidence by preventing roll back when starting from a stop on a hill.
