Formula One: Our relentless journey to the podium.

Honda is the world‘s largest manufacturer of engines, producing and marketing nearly 20 million units globally for automotives, motorcycles, marine, and power equipment products each year; we're also the motor company with the most involvement in international motorsport. We view our participation as the ultimate test for our high-tech products, and also the opportunity for us to realise a dream.

Our Formula One entry in January 1964 saw Honda as the youngest car manufacturer in Japan at that time. We knew that motorsport was the perfect beginning to develop not just superior machines, but superior engineers.

Our first challenge was to build our own chassis. With relatively little experience and considerable amount of problems, our efforts paid off when the first race-ready Formula One machine, the RA271, was finally completed. In August 1964, the RA271 made its Formula One debut at the German Grand Prix. After five races, we were still struggling. It seemed we were simply unable to secure a victory. The last race of the 1965 Grand Prix season took place at a circuit 2,000 meters above sea level, in Mexico. There, the drivers were faced with conditions that did not exist at any other Grand Prix circuit - the thin atmosphere. Honda's fuel-injection mechanism worked very effectively, and on October 24, 1965, our car led the pack and won.

At last we secured our first victory. And to date, we have 11 World Championship crowns. In October 2005, we formed our very own Honda Racing F1 Team, a team that would further push the limits and propel our dreams to greater heights, as proven at the Hungarian GP 2006, where we won again. At our first victory, our founder meaningfully said, "Now we must study the reasons why we lose, and do the same when we win, so that we can use that knowledge to improve the quality of our cars and make them safer for our customers. That’s our duty. Once we had established our goal, we decided to choose the most difficult path to get there. This is why we entered the Grand Prix series".
