Since young I have always aspired to be... Pilot
“I began to set my ambition is to
overcome the hardship of living in poorness and
to create opportunity for my family and for those
who does not have one, to create a better life.”
Honda Dreams Fund is the opportunity I have been
waiting for to realize my dreams. Since I was young,
I have always aspired to be a pilot. This aspiration
has started from the very moment of the flying technology
came into my knowledge.
I came from a moderate family, consist of 11 members,
survived by the income from a responsible father
who struggled as a full-time lorry driver.
To be a pilot, is a dream of mine, as a condition
to make my life, my family’s life better. Yes,
of course it is. My dream is to make our lives better,
to create enough opportunity for everybody to be
confident enough in efforts to realize our dreams,
or in more specific words, to have the opportunity
to be educated.
One of the incident that I remember the most is
the time to get into secondary school. When I was
offered to be in the list of students in a boarding
school, I was very excited. Eventually, I created
a chance to talk to my father and I told him that
I want this opportunity. He just remained silent,
with some pressure that can be defined from his face.
I know, the cost to study in a boarding school is
already enough to get my 5 younger siblings studied
in primary school even though I was excluded from
paying certain fees. From that moment, I began to
set my ambition is to overcome the hardship of living
in poorness and to create opportunity for my family
and for those who does not have one, to create a
better life.
Although I have the opportunity to be educated in
a boarding school, I faced hardship that come from
shortage of money. My pocket money was merely enough
for food, and if there is any addition fee required
by the teachers, I will have to starve at recess
time, and sometimes I fasted to recover shortage
of money, or else I will not have enough money to
go back at my hometown at the end of the month, since
my hometown is more or less than a hundred kilometres
away from the school. Sometimes. I feel depressed,
feel like losing directions, alone, as a stranger
in an unknown environment. My father never pays me
any visit, I understand why. I have a family, but
they are far away from me. My dream is to avoid all
these hardships and feelings from spreading to my
brothers and sisters. I want them to be focused in
studying, without any obstacles.
I came from a rural neighbourhood, with rural people
as my neighbours, with their rural thinking. When
I was sent to study in a boarding school, they said
it is no use of going that for just study, moreover
the fee is a few times much more than it is in the
secondary school existed in the village. They thought
it was just a waste of money and time. They thought
all the schools are the same, teaching the same syllabus.
I had always have the desire to change their point
of view about education and many other things.
These rural way of thinking had been the obstacles
in the efforts of the Malaysian Government to build
up a community which dedicated their lives to enhance
religion, race and country. One day, somehow, with
all my might, I will struggle in the efforts of the
Malaysian Government towards all these hope. |
